Ingredients
  

  • Stew
  • 1 lb stew beef or ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 carrots sliced
  • 2 celery stalks chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • Dumplings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Method
 

  1. Brown beef in oil and remove excess fat.
  2. Add vegetables and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in broth, seasoning, and simmer until beef is tender.
  4. Mix dumpling dough ingredients until just combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls onto stew, cover, and cook until dumplings are done.

Notes

  • Keep stew gently simmering when cooking dumplings.
  • Use ground beef for quicker hamburger dumplings style meals.
