Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
  • Frosting
  • 1 cup butter
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, then mix until smooth.
  4. Slowly stir in hot coffee to create a thin batter.
  5. Pour batter into cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  6. Allow cakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. Beat butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, cream, and vanilla until smooth frosting forms.
  8. Frost the cake layers and decorate as desired.
